About

Engineer, marketer, operator, investor. Now building with an AI team.

I'm Wayne Gibbins. I've spent 25 years in startups: building software, running marketing and sales, investing, and sitting around board tables. Now I bring all of it to growing businesses, helping them grow and run more efficiently, with an AI team that adds capacity alongside the people they already have.

The story

The longer version

Engineering

I studied Software Engineering at the University of Manchester. My final-year project was a document management system, sponsored by N.G. Bailey, so I was building software for a sponsoring company while still at university. My first job was as a full-stack .NET engineer at Pan Atlantic Software.

Brand and marketing

As Client Director at Corporate Edge I worked on brand and digital strategy for JTI, Richemont, INEOS and IHG. I was European Marketing Director at Viadeo, a venture-backed professional network that scaled across the UK, Europe and the US.

Commercial leadership

I was Chief Commercial Officer at Wercker through its acquisition by Oracle.

Investing

At Notion Capital I was Vice President: I reviewed more than 500 SaaS businesses and sat on the investment committee for around 26 deals. I'm also a Venture Partner at 7percent Ventures, an early-stage fund backing frontier technology, and I'm an investor in Carbon13, a fund backing early-stage startups that reduce carbon.

Boards and mentoring

I've been a board observer at Wercker and at Glow Digital (acquired by ADTZ), a board adviser to Fliplet, and a NED, adviser and investor in early-stage companies including DeepAR.ai (acquired by Zalando) and fieldmargin (acquired by Agreena). I was a mentor, and on the investment committee, at Seedcamp, and a mentor at Startup Wise Guys. As a ZINC fellow I advised pre-seed startups working on human and planetary health problems.

Agriculture and food

I co-founded New Foundation Farms, and ran AgTech Advisors, my advisory practice for agri-food-tech startups, working with fieldmargin, Mona Dairy, DeepRoots and others. Agri-food and regenerative

Impact and giving

I've taken the Founders Pledge, and I'm a member of Top Tier Impact, an impact investing network, and of the Global Regeneration CoLab. Climate, biodiversity and impact

What I'm building

FloodWatch UK

FloodWatch UK is flood intelligence for UK businesses with a portfolio of sites. It takes in real-time data from the Environment Agency, SEPA and Natural Resources Wales, covering more than 5,000 monitoring stations at 15-minute resolution, with predictive models in development. It's in beta. Home-Checker, independent property intelligence for home buyers, is part of the same portfolio. I build both with the same AI team I'd put to work for you, which is the best test I know of whether the approach works.

How I work

Working with an AI team

The "team" is software: AI agents that do research, analysis, writing and coding. They're fast, and they need direction and checking. That's my job. They add capacity to your team; they don't replace it.

Who does what

MeDoes: Agrees with you what we're doing and why. Directs the agents. Checks every claim. Signs off everything. Deals with you.
Doesn't: Hand you anything I haven't checked.
Coding agentsDoes: Build tools, agents and automations
Doesn't: Decide what to build
Research agentsDoes: Market, competitor and customer research
Doesn't: Decide what's true without a source
Analysis agentsDoes: Data, reporting and forecasts
Doesn't: Sign anything off

The rules this site was built under

  • A written brief first. One document holds the facts they may use, the decisions already made and the rules.
  • Nothing invented. If a fact isn't in the brief, an agent flags it rather than guessing.
  • Unconfirmed means visible. Anything I haven't confirmed is highlighted until I have.
  • Separate jobs. Each agent has its own task and its own output, and a separate agent checks the result.

This site is the example. It was written, designed and built by five agents directed by me, with a fact-check and a quality check built in. See what else the AI team has built

Your data stays yours: I use tools that don't train on your data.
