Research: what's happening in your market, and what could come next
Desk-based, data-driven research into your market, your competitors, the regulations that affect you, the trends ahead and the people who might one day buy a business like yours. We agree the questions together, and the answers can help you grow or run more efficiently, working alongside any research or strategy people you already have.
Questions research could answer
Your market
Where demand is growing, in your region or your sector, and which customers could be worth going after next.
Your competitors
Who else serves your customers, how they do it, what they charge and how they describe themselves.
Regulations
Which rules are coming that could affect you, what they mean in plain English, and when they take effect.
Trends
What's changing in your sector, from technology to buying habits, and what it could mean for the business.
Potential buyers
Who might one day buy a business like yours, and what they tend to look for.
For example: a manufacturer could ask which sectors are buying more of what it makes; a software company, who its competitors are winning against and why; an owner thinking about a sale, which kinds of company have bought similar businesses.
How it's done
- Public and official data first. UK sources such as Companies House, the ONS, gov.uk and the regulators, then company websites and published research.
- AI research agents for breadth, so the research covers more ground in less time.
- Every claim checked and sourced by me before it reaches you, so you can see where each finding came from.
- Findings dated, so you know how current they are.
If you already have people doing research or strategy, I can work alongside them: filling gaps, adding capacity, or taking on a question they don't have time for.
Your data stays yours: I use tools that don't train on your data.
What you get
A short, readable report or deck that answers the questions we agreed, with sources and dates. It can stand on its own, or feed straight into the next step:
- Consulting: a growth plan, positioning or pricing built on what the research found
- Building: a tool or dashboard that keeps tracking it
- Advising: board decisions made with the evidence in front of you
Looking at a company as an investor? Independent due diligence sits under Advising.
Why me for this
- I've done research at scale on the investor's side. At Notion Capital I reviewed more than 500 software businesses and led technical due diligence.
- I've done formal research. My MSc dissertation was built on a systematic review of the published research and interviews with experts, analysed for common themes.
- I've built a research pipeline with the same AI team. It worked through Companies House data and company websites, with accuracy checks at every stage, narrowing 7,187 companies to 284 well-matched businesses. See what the team has built
